Weregem – The Blauwpoort industrial estate in Waregem, led by Leiedal, spans 42 hectares (26 for businesses, 16 for green space). 80 companies showed interest, and 25 will be selected based on jobs, environmental impact, and local ties. Mayor Kristof Chanterie confirmed construction would start in early 2026, with business buildings in 2027.

The Blauwpoort industrial estate in Waregem is being built after many years of planning and delays.  The project is being led by Leiedal, which owns the land.  Companies interested in setting up shop at the estate, called De Vlecht, can now sign up.  The construction will start in early 2026.

The permit application for infrastructure works and landscaping will be finished by the end of April 2025.  After that, they will finish the landscaping and add utilities so businesses can start building their buildings in 2027.

Which companies will join Waregem’s 42ha Blauwpoort estate?

The Blauwpoort industrial estate is a new development in Waregem, Belgium.  It will be built on 42 hectares of land, with 26 hectares dedicated to businesses and 16 hectares designated as a green zone.  This green zone will be a natural space that includes the historic gatehouse and the remnants of the old farm’s ramparts.

Officials mentioned that the inclusion of these heritage structures is a way to preserve the site’s history while also creating a modern industrial hub.  The estate is strategically located near the E17 highway, which makes it easily accessible for businesses.  Blauwpoort is expected to be an important economic driver for Waregem, attracting new companies and creating jobs while also addressing environmental concerns.

According to the officials, there has been interest in the site for 20 years.  In the last year, 80 companies have said they want to be there.  The group in charge of the project, Leiedal, will contact companies that are interested and will also let new companies apply.  A committee will choose which companies can come to Blauwpoort.

They will look at how many jobs the company will create, if the company is good for the environment, and if the company has ties to the area.  Businesses that are not good for the environment, like slaughterhouses or soil processing companies, will not be allowed.  Office spaces and small businesses will also not be allowed.

The Blauwpoort industrial estate in Waregem is expected to have space for about 25 companies, but the exact number will depend on how big each company needs to be.  There are plots of land available that range from 3,000 square meters to 3 hectares, so companies of different sizes can fit in.

Most companies will be able to buy their plots of land, but companies that are located near the highway will have to rent their space.  For more information, there will be a meeting at Waregem City Hall on Thursday, April 24, 2025.

After the meeting, companies can officially apply to be part of the Blauwpoort estate.  Blauwpoort wants to attract companies that will create jobs and help the environment, and they are hoping to have a lot of companies apply.
