Ukraine’s Security Service Arrests Agent Planning Attack with Explosive Scooter
On June 20, Ukraine’s Security Service, in collaboration with law enforcement, apprehended a Russian agent in Kharkiv who transferred a booby-trapped scooter to Ukrainian soldiers. Russian special services activated explosives concealed in the scooter’s trunk while two military personnel were nearby, the agency reported on its Telegram channel.
The agent lured the military personnel to a cafe under the pretense of delivering the scooter as volunteer aid, where the explosion occurred.
The 19-year-old local resident was recruited via a Telegram channel, where her handler provided instructions for creating an improvised explosive device. She subsequently purchased a battery, chemicals, wires, and two phones for remote detonation. After assembling the explosive device, she concealed it in the scooter’s trunk.
Russian intelligence tracked the military’s arrival at the scooter using surveillance cameras. The traitor was detained by law enforcement hours after the attack; during a search of her home, investigators discovered a phone containing evidence of her collaboration with Russian agents and explosive components.
She has been charged under Part 3 of Article 258 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which pertains to terrorism leading to loss of life. The agent is currently in custody, facing potential asset confiscation and life imprisonment.
Recently, the Security Service detained two men who, on June 14, attempted to assassinate a Ukrainian serviceman in Kharkiv using an improvised explosive device, reports 24brussels.
