Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense Approves New Heavy Drone Complex
On June 27, 2025, Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense announced the approval of the heavy drone complex, Protector, which was developed to enhance logistical and combat operations in diverse terrains throughout the year. The decision follows the utilization of real combat experience from Ukrainian forces to ensure soldier safety, reports 24brussels.
The Protector drone is designed for various tasks, including the transportation of ammunition, evacuation of wounded personnel, and serving as a platform for robotic combat modules and mobile electronic warfare systems.
This remotely operated vehicle boasts a payload capacity of up to 700 kg and a range of up to 400 km. It is equipped with a powerful internal combustion engine and demonstrates high off-road capabilities. Its four-wheel drive system allows it to navigate significant obstacles, while RunFlat tires enable continued movement even when damaged.
“This represents a new branch in the development of ground robotic complexes—a full-sized unmanned vehicle. It offers new opportunities for our troops to execute dangerous missions without risking personnel safety. It is crucial that technology gets closer to the front lines, ensuring innovative warfare tools work for and on behalf of our soldiers. Robotic systems must be maximally enhanced,” stated Deputy Defense Minister Valeriy Churkin.
On the same day, Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov and Danish Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen signed a letter of intent in The Hague, marking the beginning of joint production of Ukrainian weapons in Denmark. This signing is the first tangible step towards implementing the Build with Ukraine initiative, initiated during a recent defense coalition meeting in the “Ramstein” format.
“We are entering a new phase of cooperation with Denmark in the security sector. This initiative will see the production of Ukrainian weapons on Danish soil, thereby strengthening Ukraine’s defense potential,” Umerov noted.
