Ukrainian Colonel Sergey Zakhariev Killed in Action
Colonel Sergey Zakhariev, commander of the 110th Mechanized Brigade, was killed in combat while defending Ukraine against Russian invaders. He is survived by three children, reported Brigadier General Sergey Sobko.
“You were the best among us during our studies, the most talented. You remained the best when we became officers,” Sobko stated.
The general noted that Zakhariev’s humor and spirit provided support to the soldiers even in the most challenging situations. He expressed condolences to the family and loved ones of the fallen hero.
Zakhariev was a graduate of the Odessa Institute of Ground Forces, and in February 2025, he was appointed commander of the 100th Mechanized Brigade, having previously served as deputy commander of the 33rd Brigade. He was awarded the Orders of Bohdan Khmelnytskyi of the second and third classes.
In related news, in the early hours of June 29, F-16 pilot Maxim Ustimenko was killed. President Volodymyr Zelensky awarded him the title of Hero of Ukraine, along with the Order of the Golden Star, reports 24brussels.
