Ukraine’s Intelligence Chief Urges Citizens to Recognize Threats Amid Russian Aggression
Chief of the Main Intelligence Directorate of Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense, Kyrylo Budanov, has called on Ukrainians to acknowledge the reality of the threat posed by Russia and not to evade military service. He emphasized that failing to act could lead to the presence of Russian soldiers on Ukrainian territory, reports 24brussels.
Budanov made his comments during an appearance on “Hromadske Radio,” reacting to statements made by Russian President Vladimir Putin. He stressed the importance of defending Ukraine in light of Putin’s remarks that “Russian land will be where a Russian soldier steps.”
He asserted, “Wherever they reach will be under their control. Do you think no one understands this? I hope everyone does. As citizens, we must conclude that we need to genuinely protect our state and not hide from military recruitment. Otherwise, the Russian Military Commissariat (TCK) will come, just as it is happening in the occupied territories.”
Budanov also indicated that tensions on the front lines are currently escalating and that a significant change in the situation at the front should not be expected soon. He noted, “Everything you see now will not change significantly.”
In response to questions about the duration of this escalation, he remarked it would persist until peace negotiations conclude.
The ongoing conflict has raised critical questions regarding military rotations versus demobilization in wartime. Society faces challenges as some citizens fight for independence while others seek to avoid service.
