Ukraine Expands Domestic Military Production Amid Ongoing Conflict

On June 2, 2025, the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense announced the integration of over 120 new weapon systems and military technologies into its arsenal, signaling a significant boost in domestic military production as Ukraine seeks to reduce dependence on foreign arms supplies, reports 24brussels.

Of the newly approved systems, a majority are produced locally. The announcement was made by the Chief Directorate of the Life Cycle Support of Armaments and Military Equipment. The expansion highlights Ukraine’s commitment to enhancing its military capabilities in light of ongoing hostilities.

Significantly, last month saw the codification of various types of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), accounting for close to 50 of the new entries, alongside numerous engineering tools and munitions primarily designed for UAVs. Over ten ground robotic complexes were also integrated into the military inventory from domestic manufacturers.

The pace of innovation and manufacturing among Ukrainian defense producers is accelerating. Since the beginning of 2025, more than 600 new weapon systems have been approved for use, compared to over 300 domestic innovations during the first half of the previous year. This marks a noticeable increase in Ukraine’s military production capacity.

In just the first half of 2025, the arsenal of UAVs has expanded by over 270 new models, nearly triple the quantity from the same period the previous year. This was complemented by the codification of eight domestically produced armored vehicles and combat modules, as well as more than sixty new electronic warfare systems. Additionally, nearly thirty new engineering tools and over thirty ground robotic complexes were approved during this timeframe.

At the Shangri-La Dialogue security forum in Singapore, Deputy Minister of Defense Oleksandr Kozenko stated that the Ukrainian defense industry is capable of producing up to 10 million drones annually. He emphasized the cost-effectiveness and battlefield-tested reliability of Ukrainian drones compared to foreign counterparts.

Kozenko further noted that Ukrainian UAV operators are gaining substantial experience, allowing Ukraine to “write doctrinal changes in the use of these means of destruction.” He claimed that drones account for 80% of all strikes on the battlefield, underscoring their critical role in the ongoing conflict.
