Russia Intensifies Attacks Following Trump-Putin Call

Amid escalating tensions, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha accused Russia of disregarding calls for an end to the war following a recent conversation between President Vladimir Putin and former U.S. President Donald Trump. Sybiha asserted that the timing of a subsequent Russian attack was deliberate and called for increased sanctions against Moscow and enhanced defensive support for Kyiv, reports 24brussels.

During the call with Trump, Putin reaffirmed Russia’s commitment to its war objectives, which a Kremlin aide characterized as addressing the “root causes” of the conflict, stemming from perceived security threats posed by Ukraine.

Trump expressed disappointment with the dialogue, stating, “I’m just saying I don’t think he’s looking to stop, and that’s too bad.” His remarks underline the ongoing frustrations surrounding diplomatic efforts to curtail hostilities.

Since the beginning of 2023, Russia has escalated its aerial bombardments, executing unprecedented strikes in recent weeks. In June, Russia reportedly launched a record 5,337 Iranian-designed Shahed drones, marking the highest monthly total since its full-scale invasion commenced in February 2022.

In a related development, the Pentagon announced a cessation of promised air defense missile shipments to Ukraine, citing concerns over dwindling U.S. military stockpiles. Ukrainian officials have warned that this delay in aid could further embolden Russia in its military campaign.

In response to queries regarding the halted shipments, Trump stated, “We are giving weapons, and we’re working with them and trying to help them,” emphasizing the importance of ensuring adequate supplies for U.S. forces while supporting Ukraine.
