Russian Forces Capture New Mikolaivka in Sumy Region
Russian troops recently seized the village of New Mikolaivka in the Khotyn community of the Sumy region and advanced southeast of the settlement on July 4, according to the American Institute for the Study of War (ISW), which referenced geolocation videos published on the same day.
Researchers noted that on July 3 and 4, Russian forces conducted attacks in northern Sumy Oblast, particularly north of the city of Sumy near Kindrativka and Kostiantynivka, as well as northeast of the city near Myropillia. Concurrently, Russian sources reported counterattacks by Ukrainian armed forces in the same areas.
Ukrainian military officials reported intense fighting in the Sumy direction, where Russian forces are launching up to 50 rockets daily.
The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine stated in their morning briefing that on the northern Slobozhansk and Kursk fronts, Ukrainian defenders repelled 17 enemy attacks over the past day. The enemy also conducted 13 airstrikes, utilizing 32 guided aerial bombs, and carried out 290 shelling incidents, nine of which involved multiple rocket launch systems.
Earlier reports indicated that on the neighboring front line in northern Kharkiv Oblast, after relatively short assaults, Russian forces managed to capture Milove and numerous strips of forest to the west and south of the village, signaling ongoing advances in the region.
