Belgium to Compete with 18 Athletes at European U23 Championships in Norway

Belgium will send a delegation of 18 athletes and two men’s relay teams to the European Athletics U23 Championships in Bergen, Norway, from 17 to 20 July. Among the notable competitors are Elie Bacari and Zeno Van Neygen, who will participate in the 110 m hurdles, along with Tristan Gevaert in the 10,000 m. Mimoun Abdoul Wahab, who recently competed at the European Team Championships, will take part in the 400 metres hurdles. Belgium will also present men’s relay teams in the 4×100 m and 4×400 m events, reports 24brussels.

The women’s team features Noor Koekelkoren in the 100 m hurdles and Merel Maes competing in the high jump. In the combined events, Laura Van den Brande and Sennah Vanhoeijen will participate in the heptathlon, while Dai Keïta will compete in the decathlon.

At the previous U23 Championships held in Espoo, Finland, in 2023, Belgium secured two medals: Delphine Nkansa won gold in the 200 metres, and Elien Vekemans earned silver in the pole vault.

The upcoming championships will be a crucial opportunity for these young athletes to showcase their talents on an international stage, building on the success of their predecessors.

As the event approaches, anticipation is high for the Belgian team, highlighting the nation’s commitment to nurturing athletic excellence in young sportsmen and women.
