Massive Drone Attack Targets Moscow, Claims No Serious Damage
On July 20, 2025, a coordinated drone assault struck Moscow. Sergey Sobyanin, the mayor of the Russian capital, reported via Telegram that at 2:13 AM, the Ministry of Defense’s air defense systems intercepted and destroyed thirteen enemy drones aimed at the city. He later announced the destruction of two additional drones heading towards Moscow, reports 24brussels.
Sobyanin also noted debris fell in the suburb of Zelenograd, where emergency services are currently responding. Initial reports indicate no serious damage or injuries have occurred.
Russian opposition media outlet ASTRA reported that cars were ablaze in Zelenograd following the drone debris falling. It is also reported that one of the drones struck a residential building in the city’s 22nd microdistrict. Eyewitnesses have begun posting videos online showing the aftermath.
At 7:15 AM, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced that throughout the night, from 11:30 PM on July 19 to 7:00 AM on July 20, air defense systems intercepted and destroyed 93 aerial drones, with 16 directed at Moscow.
Previously, it was reported that on the night of July 19, debris from a drone crash on the power grid in Rostov region caused delays for 75 passenger trains in Russia.
