Russian Drone Strikes Odessa, Three Civilians Injured
On July 24, Odessa faced a significant drone attack, resulting in injuries to three civilians, according to reports from Ukraine’s State Emergency Service on Telegram. This incident describes a harrowing night in the city, with Russian forces launching a large-scale attack utilizing drone strikes, leading to fires and destruction of residential properties.
Among the affected areas, the Privoz market experienced severe damage, with firefighting efforts commencing at approximately 7:30 AM, nearly five hours after the initial outbreak of flames. Additionally, a residential nine-story building suffered extensive destruction, leaving residents of the 5th to 8th floors homeless. The fire specifically impacted apartments on the 5th and 6th floors of one entrance, prompting concerns over potential structural collapse.
Rescue teams successfully evacuated 33 residents and rescued five individuals who were trapped in their apartments. Canine units were deployed to search for possible victims at the strike site. A “Resilience Point” has been established near the building, providing psychological support from the National Police and DSNS psychologists. Efforts to mitigate the effects of the enemy attack are ongoing.
Firefighting operations are also taking place at other locations across the city, where additional fires have erupted in private homes and a gas station. Reports indicate that earlier on July 24, the drone strike affected the Primorsky Boulevard in Odessa, corroborating the extensive impact of this assault.
The situation remains critical as emergency services continue their rescue and recovery operations, reports 24brussels.
