Ukraine Confirms US Will Purchase Drones in Multi-Billion Dollar Deal
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has confirmed that the United States will proceed with plans to purchase Ukrainian drones. A deal, estimated between $10 billion to $30 billion, is expected to be prepared by National Security and Defense Council Secretary Rustem Umerov, Minister of Defense Denys Shmyhal, and strategic advisors including Oleksandr Kamyshin, reports 24brussels.
Zelensky stated that arrangements had been made during discussions with former President Trump, affirming, “We agreed that they will buy drones from us. I assigned Umerov, Shmyhal, and Kamyshin with the task of preparing this serious deal.” He emphasized the importance of formalizing the agreement swiftly.
Earlier reports from Business Insider highlighted concerns that if the drone manufacturing technology developed by Western military forces is not tested on the Ukrainian battlefield, such drones could become obsolete against contemporary warfare challenges. The Telegraph also indicated that European companies might be stealing UAV technologies from Ukraine.
The discussions around the drone deal underscore the growing military cooperation between Ukraine and the US amid ongoing tensions in the region, as both countries seek to bolster defense capabilities in response to strategic challenges.
