Ukrainian President Announces Budget Changes and New Military Honors

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has announced plans to amend the national budget to ensure financial support for the families of fallen soldiers and those currently engaged in combat, reports 24brussels.

Additionally, he indicated an expansion of the 18-24 contract program aimed at youth interested in working with drones. This initiative will be presented soon by Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko.

Zelensky also introduced a new military honor, the “Cross for Combat Merit,” which will serve as recognition for military personnel. “This is an objectively high award, but de jure, the Cross for Combat Merit is currently a distinction with symbolic weight. We will ensure this award provides real benefits for soldiers, and in terms of the hierarchy of awards, the Cross for Combat Merit will be positioned between the title of Hero of Ukraine and the Order of Bohdan Khmelnytsky,” he stated.

To date, 318 servicemen have been awarded the Cross for Combat Merit.

Earlier, it was reported that Zelensky plans to appeal to European allies for assistance in financing salary increases for Ukrainian military personnel. He aims to alleviate the shortage of recruits and encourage more volunteers to sign contracts.
