Death Toll from Russian Strike in Kyiv Rises to 26
The number of casualties from a Russian military strike in Kyiv on July 31 has climbed to 26, including three children. This update was provided by the State Emergency Service of Ukraine on the morning of August 1, reports 24brussels.
Rescue workers retrieved ten more bodies from the rubble of a building in the Sviatoshyn district, among which was a two-year-old child. A total of 159 individuals were injured, including 16 children, and 112 victims received psychological assistance from the State Emergency Service.
In response to the aftermath of the strike, 180 rescuers and 60 pieces of equipment have been deployed. According to officials, over 2,000 tons of debris have been cleared from the site.
On the same night, Russian forces launched a massive attack on Ukraine, deploying more than 300 drones and eight missiles, with the capital city as the primary target. Following the strike, August 1 has been declared a Day of Mourning in Kyiv, with national flags flown at half-mast and public entertainment events canceled.
