Meesseman’s return to the US basketball league, which had been widely reported, is now officially confirmed. She will play for the New York Liberty for the remainder of the season.
Meesseman will debut at 19:30 ET on Friday (01:30 CET) in an away game against the Connecticut Sun. The 32-year-old previously played for the Washington Mystics and the Chicago Sky in the WNBA, leading the Mystics to a championship in 2019 and earning Finals MVP honors.
Commentary from Liberty’s Management
“Emma Meesseman’s return to the WNBA is a tremendous moment for our league, and the fact that she chose New York for her next chapter speaks volumes,” said Liberty general manager Jonathan Kolb.
“Emma brings invaluable experience, championship pedigree, and a unique versatility that fits seamlessly into our group,” added Kolb. “She is one of the most skilled, intelligent, and unselfish players in the world, and her presence elevates everyone around her. Emma’s experience as a champion is vital as we pursue another title in 2025.”
Continued European Commitment
Meesseman will remain with Fenerbahçe in Europe next season, marking her fourth year with the club. During her tenure with Fenerbahçe, she has secured two EuroLeague titles and three Turkish championships.
In June, she won her second consecutive European title with the Belgian Cats and was named MVP of the tournament for the second time.
The WNBA regular season runs until September 10. Currently, the New York Liberty leads the Eastern Conference standings after 26 games, boasting 17 wins and nine losses.
