Nintendo’s Price Increase for Original Switch Consoles Announced

Nintendo has announced a price increase for its original Switch “family of systems and products,” affecting the original Switch, Switch OLED, Switch Lite, and selected accessories, effective immediately. This move comes as part of the company’s response to current market conditions, as reported 24brussels.

Though Nintendo has not publicly confirmed exact new pricing for these products, retail listings indicate that prices for the original Switch at Target briefly increased by $40 to $339.99, while the Switch OLED was reported to rise by $50 to $399.99. The Switch Lite was seen listed at $229.99, reflecting a $30 increase, although Target has since reverted to original pricing for the Switch family.

In Canada, the previously announced price hike took effect today, raising the original Switch and Switch Lite by $20 CAD to $419.99 and $279.99 respectively. The Switch OLED price also increased by $40 CAD, now at $489.99.

Nintendo has stated that the price adjustments extend to certain Switch 2 accessories, amiibo figures, and other related items. Importantly, prices for the newly released Switch 2 and accompanying software remain unchanged.

This decision coincides with the implementation of new tariffs on imported goods from countries like Vietnam, a situation that has arisen following President Donald Trump’s recent executive order. Nintendo previously shifted much of its production from China to Vietnam to evade tariffs but now faces additional costs due to these new levies.

Analysis suggests that this change might affect sales, yet reactions from consumers and industry analysts remain to be seen as these price adjustments take effect. Nintendo aims to navigate ongoing economic pressures while maintaining competitiveness in the gaming market.

Update, August 1st: Target has revised its pricing for Switch products in response to this announcement.

Correction, August 1st: An earlier version mistakenly reported the Canadian price of the Switch OLED; the correct price is $489.99.
