Tragic Loss in Kyiv as Family Killed During Russian Attack
During a massive Russian attack on July 31, a young family of three was tragically killed in Kyiv. The family, originally from Sloviansk, included a husband, wife, and their two-year-old son. This tragic event was reported by the Sloviansk City Military Administration, reports 24brussels.
According to officials, the late-night strike hit a nine-story apartment building in the Svyatoshynsky district, resulting in the deaths of 31 individuals, including five children. The family, comprising 23-year-olds Mykyta and Sofiya Lamekhov, their 2-year-old son Lev, and an unborn child, perished in the collapsed section of their building. “One country – one grief,” a statement from the administration noted.
Mykyta and Sofiya relocated from Sloviansk to Kyiv in the summer of 2022. Prior to this, Sofiya had spent several months in Germany following the onset of Russia’s full-scale invasion.
Both Mykyta and Sofiya were born in Sloviansk in 2002 and attended the same school. They graduated from an agricultural college and married after evacuating to Kyiv in 2022. Their son was born that same year. At the time of the attack, Sofiya was on maternity leave, while Mykyta worked as a security guard at an ATB supermarket.
The family was residing on the 5th floor of their apartment building, and the missile struck their section specifically. The bodies of the victims were recovered from the rubble approximately 24 hours later.
The family will be laid to rest in their hometown of Sloviansk. Sofiya is survived by her parents, three younger brothers, and two grandmothers. Mykyta leaves behind his mother, father, grandmother, and younger sister.
In a separate incident, a party took place at a club in the Holosiivskyi district of Kyiv on the day of mourning for those killed in the Russian attack. Law enforcement officials have opened a criminal investigation regarding the event, which was discovered during a social media monitoring operation.
Upon arriving at the scene, police found the club’s doors locked, and the staff refused to let them in. Consequently, authorities conducted an urgent search, uncovering over 30 attendees and club management inside. The moral implications of holding such an event on a day of remembrance are concerning.
