Karol Nawrocki Inaugurated as President of Poland, Rejects EU Impositions

On August 6, 2025, Karol Nawrocki was officially sworn in as the President of Poland, commencing his five-year term. This event marks a significant shift in Poland’s political landscape.

During his inaugural address, Nawrocki asserted his election victory was achieved “despite the propaganda, lies, political theater, and contempt” from his opponents. He indicated plans to challenge the liberal policies of Donald Tusk’s administration by utilizing the presidential veto and pursuing judicial reforms that could complicate government proceedings.

Declaring a firm stance on Poland’s relationship with the European Union (EU), Nawrocki asserted his determination to resist any EU impositions perceived as detrimental to Polish national interests. He denounced the European Green Deal as a threat to Poland’s coal-dependent economy, reaffirming his opposition to adopting the euro: “NO to the euro: Poland cannot be a subsidiary economy of our western neighbors,” he emphasized.

Nawrocki further articulated his views on Ukraine’s NATO and EU aspirations, stating, “There is no way for Ukraine to join NATO today. It is at war.” This position underlines a stark divergence from pro-Ukrainian sentiments prevalent in several EU circles.

In addressing Poland’s judiciary situation, which has faced turmoil since extensive reforms a decade ago, Nawrocki issued a warning aimed at Tusk’s administration and EU bodies. He stated, “Justice reform is the exclusive responsibility of the Polish people. We will not accept external pressure, neither from Brussels nor from Berlin, that seeks to interfere in our legal system.”

Nawrocki also unveiled his vision for a balanced and sustainable development initiative known as Plan 21, aiming to turn Poland into a hub of transformative projects. This includes advancements in national infrastructure, particularly with a new international airport at the Central Communication Port and improvements to highways and ports.

His administration vows to take a rigid stance against illegal migration and any moves to raise the retirement age, aligning with conservative electoral promises. Later on the inauguration day, Nawrocki is expected to participate in further ceremonial events, including attending a midday mass at St. John’s Archcathedral and making a public appearance before the Presidential Palace, reports 24brussels.
