Fuel Supply in Gaza Inadequate for Humanitarian Operations, Reports Show

The volume of fuel entering Gaza now supports critical life-saving operations but fails to meet the requirements needed for comprehensive humanitarian programs, reports 24brussels.

This assessment is based on evidence gathered from humanitarian partners, including the United Nations and the Red Cross, as well as EU delegations. It highlights significant discrepancies between the figures provided by Israel and those reported by humanitarian organizations.

The report also underscores the European Commission’s inability to verify information on the ground, as Israel has restricted access for both high-level and operational personnel.

During the timeframe covered by the report, only 463 trucks were reported to have crossed into Gaza, according to the U.N. and EU partners, while Israeli estimates stood at 737 trucks. However, Israel’s figures include operations from the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation, a U.S. and Israeli-backed food aid organization, whose data is not part of the EU’s humanitarian agreement.

Several factors continue to hinder the effective delivery of humanitarian aid, including persistent security concerns in Gaza. Israeli airstrikes have disrupted U.N. and NGO facilities, and existing notification mechanisms for such operations have seen no improvement.

Furthermore, humanitarian activities in regions under evacuation orders from the Israeli military affect up to 88 percent of Gaza’s territory, limiting operations due to the heightened risk of targeting staff members.
