Explosions Reported in Odesa as Air Defense Engages Drones

On August 8, 2025, explosions were reported in Odesa around 2:20 AM, according to city mayor Gennady Trukhanov via Telegram. The sounds of drones and active air defense operations were heard throughout the city.

Prior to this, at 2:18 AM, the Ukrainian Air Force warned of a group of “Shahed” drones approaching Odesa from the Black Sea. Monitoring groups reported the presence of up to 12 drones targeting the city.

“Residents of the Peresyp and city center, remain cautious!” Trukhanov urged at 2:24 AM. Just five minutes later, he alerted the public about the threats to the Khadzhibey district.

The ongoing threat illustrates the heightened state of alert across Ukraine as it continues to confront aerial assaults amid the ongoing conflict. Ukrainian officials remain vigilant in their efforts to safeguard urban areas from drone strikes, particularly from Iranian-supplied Shahed drones employed by Russian forces.

In the wake of these developments, local authorities are reinforcing air defense measures and encouraging residents to stay informed about the latest updates on air threats. This incident underscores the ongoing challenges faced by Ukraine’s defense forces as they adapt to the ever-evolving tactics of their adversaries. The situation remains fluid, with updates expected throughout the day, reports 24brussels.
