Microsoft launches GPT-5 in Copilot with enhanced smart mode features

OpenAI Launches GPT-5, Now Integrated into Microsoft Products

OpenAI has officially introduced its new GPT-5 models, with Microsoft now integrating these advancements into its various platforms, including Copilot, Microsoft 365 Copilot, Azure AI Foundry, and GitHub Copilot. This simultaneous rollout promises enhanced functionality across these tools, designed to improve user experience and productivity, reports 24brussels.

The newly implemented smart mode in Copilot enables the AI assistant to switch between models, allowing for deeper reasoning and rapid responses tailored to specific tasks. Similar to OpenAI’s approach for free users on ChatGPT, Microsoft is also providing free access to GPT-5 within its Copilot offerings.

Users of Microsoft 365 Copilot will receive access to GPT-5 immediately. According to Microsoft, “With GPT-5, Microsoft 365 Copilot is better at reasoning through complex questions, staying on track in longer conversations and understanding the user’s context.” Furthermore, Copilot Studio will also benefit from this latest model release.

Additionally, GitHub is introducing GPT-5 to all paid plans of GitHub Copilot, enabling developers to enhance their coding efficiency with OpenAI’s latest improvements. GPT-5 is released in four versions, showcasing significant advancements in logical reasoning and code quality. Notably, GPT-5 is optimized for handling complex reasoning tasks, while GPT-5-chat is tailored for enterprise applications that involve multimodal, context-aware interactions.

Moreover, Microsoft is making GPT-5 available through Azure AI Foundry, allowing developers to leverage its capabilities in AI-powered applications. The model router in Azure AI Foundry ensures that the appropriate model is utilized for each task or query, further enhancing the developer experience.
