Trump Demands Intel CEO Resign Over Alleged Chinese Ties
President Donald Trump has demanded that Lip-Bu Tan resign as Intel’s CEO due to his reported connections with Chinese technology firms. This call for action follows Arkansas Senator Tom Cotton’s inquiry regarding whether Tan’s relations with China could pose a conflict with U.S. security regulations.
Trump declared on Truth Social, “The CEO of INTEL is highly CONFLICTED and must resign, immediately. There is no other solution to this problem. Thank you for your attention to this problem!”
Tan was appointed Intel’s CEO in March, tasked with revitalizing the beleaguered chipmaker after the board ousted his predecessor, Pat Gelsinger, amid a faltering turnaround strategy. Under Gelsinger, Intel struggled to keep pace with industry leaders like TSMC, which advanced in next-generation chip production.
Recently, Intel announced it would lay off 24,000 employees this year and cancel planned projects in Germany and Poland, highlighting the company’s ongoing challenges in the competitive semiconductor landscape.
In an April report by Reuters, it was revealed that Tan had previously invested in over 600 Chinese tech companies, some linked to the Chinese military. Reports noted that he had divested from an unconfirmed number of these investments prior to the announcement.
In response to the allegations, Intel stated that both the company and Tan are “deeply committed to the national security of the U.S. and the integrity of our role in the U.S. defense ecosystem,” emphasizing their dedication to regulatory compliance amidst the unfolding controversy.
