Hamas Condemns Killing of Journalists in Gaza
Hamas has condemned the killing of a team of Al Jazeera journalists, including prominent Palestinian reporter Anas Al Sharif, in a targeted Israeli attack in the Gaza Strip on Sunday. The group claims that the Israeli government aimed to “silence his media voice” as part of a broader strategy to “carry out massacres out of sight of the world,” reports 24brussels.
The militant organization described the assault, which took place near Al Shifa Hospital in Gaza City, as a “fascist and criminal” act that surpasses all limits. Hamas reports that the death toll of journalists since the outset of the Israeli offensive—set to reach its two-year mark in October—has risen to 237. The group refers to this as “the broadest attack on journalists seen in any war.”
According to Hamas, Al Sharif represented the essence of a free journalist, documenting the suffering inflicted by the blockade on the people of Gaza. His work highlighted the dire humanitarian situation, described as a crime of starvation by the occupation.
In addition, Hamas asserted that the systematic targeting of journalists is intended to intimidate those who remain, facilitating Israel’s recent plans to take over Gaza City. This strategy, approved by Tel Aviv’s authorities last Friday, involves displacing one million residents from the city.
This intense conflict in Gaza underscores ongoing tensions, with both sides entrenched in their positions. The international community continues to monitor the situation, as calls for accountability and protection of press freedom persist amid escalating violence.
Hamas’s recent statements reflect the urgency and severity of the humanitarian crises unfolding in Gaza, as the plight of civilians continues to worsen under ongoing military operations.
