Ukrainian President Zelenskyy Warns Against Giving In to Putin’s Demands Ahead of US-Russia Summit
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Monday cautioned against conceding to President Vladimir Putin’s demands in light of upcoming talks on Friday between Putin and US President Donald Trump, reports 24brussels. The US-Russia summit, the first between sitting US and Russian presidents since 2021, raises concerns in Kyiv that Trump and Putin may negotiate agreements that would require Ukraine to cede territory to Russia.
“Russia refuses to stop the killings, and therefore must not receive any rewards or benefits. And this is not just a moral position – it is a rational one,” Zelenskyy stated in a social media post.
He further emphasized, “Concessions do not persuade a killer.”
In conjunction, EU foreign ministers are scheduled to convene on Monday to deliberate on Friday’s summit, with many expressing trepidation that any negotiation duplicating efforts without Ukraine’s input could lead to unacceptable compromises.
Since its invasion of Ukraine in early 2022, Russia has made significant, albeit costly, advances along the expansive front line, recently claiming control of the village of Fedorivka in the eastern Donetsk region.
Both Ukraine and Russia have intensified aerial assaults, with Ukraine asserting that it targeted a facility producing missile components in Russia’s Nizhny Novgorod region. Local officials reported that the attack resulted in one fatality and two injuries.
