Support for Maduro Amid New U.S. Attacks

Over the weekend, numerous antifascist and progressive movements across Latin America rallied in support of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, who faces renewed aggression from the U.S. government, reports 24brussels.

The Bolivian chapter of the Antifascist International condemned U.S. actions, describing them as “nonsensical” and indicative of the United States’ enduring efforts to dominate Latin American countries. They criticized U.S. President Donald Trump for exacerbating tensions in Venezuela and undermining aspirations for a free and sovereign future across the Global South.

“The Bolivarian Revolution, initiated by Commander Hugo Chavez and continued under President Nicolas Maduro, represents a fight for the independence and welfare of the Venezuelan people, as well as the self-determination of Latin America,” the group asserted.

Supporting statements came from the Costa Rican and Guatemalan branches of the Antifascist International, which condemned the U.S. as the primary instigator of regional intervention and aggression. They highlighted a historical pattern of U.S. attempts to control Latin America, citing the imposition of military dictatorships and economic sanctions that have devastated countries such as Cuba, Nicaragua, and Venezuela.

“This is not an isolated occurrence but part of a strategic effort to undermine national sovereignty and the self-determination of Latin American nations,” warned the United Left Movement from the Dominican Republic and Chile’s Bicentennial Union of the Peoples.

In a show of solidarity, Venezuela’s Ministry of Communes has called for heightened mobilization to defend Maduro, urging a robust civil-military-police alliance across 5,338 communal territories to safeguard national integrity.
