Philips Hue plans launch of new smart bridge and outdoor lighting solutions

Philips Hue Launches New Bridge with Motion-Sensing Technology

Philips Hue is set to unveil a new version of its bridge, the first in a decade, featuring advanced motion-sensing capabilities, reports 24brussels.

The innovative Hue Bridge Pro promises to deliver faster performance, enhanced capacity, and the ability to transform smart lights into motion sensors. This information was briefly posted on the company’s website, but the page has since been removed.

Details surrounding the new devices, which also include a video doorbell and energy-efficient smart bulbs, remain limited. Signify, the parent company of Hue, will host a press conference in Berlin next month, coinciding with the IFA tech trade show, where further specifications are anticipated.

A standout feature of the new bridge is its integration of “built-in MotionAware technology.” While Wi-Fi motion-sensing solutions have been available for some time, Hue’s technology utilizes Zigbee rather than Wi-Fi. In a recent development, Ivani launched a firmware update that allows Zigbee devices to function as motion sensors, which could have influenced Hue’s new upgrade.

Justin McKinney, co-founder of Ivani, indicated earlier this year that they were collaborating with major brands to implement this technology, suggesting that Hue might be among them. This enhancement could allow existing Hue fixtures to adjust lighting automatically based on movement within the home.

The bridge will also boast “advanced AI features,” which are expected to be linked to Hue’s new AI lighting assistant. Reports highlight that the Bridge Pro will include a faster processor, expanded memory, and Wi-Fi connectivity, eliminating the need for physical connections to a router, while supporting a grand total of up to 150 bulbs and 50 accessories.

In addition to the new bridge, the company is also bringing out a wired video doorbell, which is expected to transmit in 2K, representing a significant upgrade from previous security camera offerings. Furthermore, Hue lights will soon become compatible with Sonos’ voice assistant, enabling users to control lighting through voice commands.

New energy-efficient lighting solutions are also on the way, including a 60-watt smart bulb that uses 40% less energy and dims to very low levels. These bulbs will implement Hue’s ChromaSync technology, allowing for precise color matching across multiple fixtures. Additionally, the upcoming Festavia-branded outdoor lights will offer stylish options for external illumination.

This comprehensive rollout signifies Philips Hue’s commitment to enhancing smart lighting systems, potentially eliminating the need for separate motion sensors while increasing device support. The official launch and hands-on demonstrations will take place next month in Berlin during the IFA tech trade show.
