What new facilities does Solveld in Tielt-Winge offer residents and clubs?
Jan Loddewyk, the municipality’s Alderman for Finance and a former football player, expressed that this project has been a longstanding ambition. He represents CD&V and Groen. The local authorities view the development as a testament to their commitment to promoting physical activity and enhancing sports amenities.
The new Solveld sports complex now features a range of facilities accessible to local residents and sports teams. These include padel courts, an artificial football pitch, a Finnish running track, and areas designed for cycling and skating.
The primary use of the football pitch will be by the local team, TW3000; however, it remains open to schools and casual users. The layout of the grounds accommodates both organized sports and informal recreation.
The total cost of developing the Solveld sports area was €1.9 million, with the municipality securing a €385,000 subsidy for the initiative. Sports Councillor Steve Cleynen, from the Vooruit party, noted that plans exist to expand the complex further in the coming years. He characterized the project as a vital long-term investment in sports and physical activity, positioning Solveld as a future sports hub in the region.
“We are considering building a basketball court, and we want to make the lighting in the sports hall more energy-efficient by installing LED lighting.”

The Solveld sports area is part of a comprehensive strategy aimed at enhancing athletic facilities for community members. Previously, a sports hall was constructed on-site in the 1990s, but there was a pressing need for additional outdoor fields to host diverse activities.
In a parallel effort, the Heverlee sports complex in Leuven recently expanded to include artificial turf fields and a running track for community sports clubs. Similarly, Ghent’s Blaarmeersen sports area underwent upgrades, featuring new football fields, cycling lanes, and outdoor fitness equipment designed to serve both clubs and recreational participants.
