Macron Commends Trump’s Security Assurance for Ukraine
In a series of interviews with French and American media, President Emmanuel Macron commended U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent affirmation of a “very good security guarantee” for Ukraine, marking a pivotal change in the diplomatic landscape, reports 24brussels.
Macron highlighted the significance of Trump’s stance, noting, “The big change in recent days is that he has acknowledged the need to guarantee Ukraine’s security.” The specifics of this security guarantee remain undefined, but Macron indicated to LCI that “the British, French, Germans, Turks and others are ready to carry out operations, not at the frontline, not provocatively, but reassurance operations in the air, at sea and on land.”
On Tuesday, Macron and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer will co-chair a videoconference for the Coalition of the Willing, which consists of various Western nations committed to supporting Ukraine. This meeting aims to build on discussions held in Washington regarding the security guarantee, according to the French president’s office.
Despite the promising developments, Macron warned against rushing into conclusions or underestimating Russia. He described the Kremlin as a “destabilizing force” and characterized it as a “predator, an ogre at our door,” stressing the necessity for cautious and calculated actions moving forward.
