Google’s Pixel hardware event: new phones, smartwatch, and earbuds set for launch

Google is set to unveil a new series of Pixel devices at its Made by Google event tomorrow, featuring the flagship Pixel 10 phone line, alongside a new smartwatch and earbuds, reports 24brussels.

The highly anticipated Pixel line has been extensively leaked in recent weeks, revealing significant details about the expected announcements for the August 20th launch event, including colors, specifications, and pricing.

Google has confirmed several features of the upcoming devices. An advertisement previews most of the new hardware and announces guest appearances from various celebrities, including Jimmy Fallon and the Jonas Brothers.

Four Pixel 10 phones

The Pixel 10 line features four models: the Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, Pixel 10 Pro XL, and Pixel 10 Pro Fold. Each model has appeared in teasers that highlight their design, including a new grayish blue color known as “Moonstone” and a bright blue variant labeled “Indigo.”

Specifically, the base Pixel 10 is rumored to adopt a triple-camera system that includes a new 5x telephoto lens. However, reductions in the main and ultrawide cameras could impact overall image quality negatively compared to the Pixel 9.

One notable advancement across all models is the expected introduction of Qi2 magnetic wireless charging, which may incorporate faster charging capabilities. Reports suggest Google will launch a range of magnetic accessories dubbed “Pixelsnap” to complement this feature.

The Pixel 10 Pro Fold is anticipated to be the first foldable device with an IP68 rating, ensuring protection against dust and water, which would be a notable achievement for its engineering team.

Software enhancements are also on the horizon, with the rollout of Material 3 Expressive design language and a potential new Android desktop mode. Further AI advancements are also expected during the event.

Pricing appears to remain consistent with the Pixel 9 series in the U.S., with the Pixel 10 starting at $799 and the 10 Pro Fold approaching $1,799. The 10 Pro XL could see a price increase to $1,199, transitioning from a previous 128GB model to a starting point of 256GB storage.

Pixel Watch 4

In line with new flagship phones, Google will introduce the Pixel Watch 4, which will be available in two sizes: 41mm and 45mm, with color options likely mirroring those of the new phone lineup.

The most significant change in the Watch 4 includes a new side charging design, potentially enabling faster charging and a more user-friendly interface for nighttime charging. This new design may also simplify repairs, although exact details are still unclear.

On the software front, the Pixel Watch will receive a Material 3 Expressive aesthetic update, but specific features of the Watch 4 remain largely undisclosed following the release of the substantial Gemini update for prior models.

About pricing, it is anticipated the Pixel Watch 4 will maintain the same price point as its predecessor, starting at $349 for the Wi-Fi model and $399 for LTE.

Pixel Buds 2A

Lastly, Google is expected to introduce the Pixel Buds 2A, following a four-year hiatus since the release of the Pixel Buds A-Series. Details are still emerging, but initial reports suggest upgrades in sound quality, featuring active noise cancellation and spatial audio, albeit without some advanced features found in the Pro 2 version.

While pricing in the U.S. is unconfirmed, European sources indicate a likely retail price of €149, making a U.S. price of $149 plausible.

Staggered sales

Despite the simultaneous announcement of these devices, Google will stagger their release dates. The Pixel 10, 10 Pro, and 10 Pro XL are set to go on sale on August 28th, while the 10 Pro Fold, Watch 4, and Buds 2A are postponed until October 9th.
