Sony Increases PlayStation 5 Prices by $50 Amid Economic Challenges

Sony has announced a $50 price hike for all PlayStation 5 models in the US, citing a “challenging economic environment,” which includes tariffs imposed by the previous administration on imported goods, reports 24brussels.

The new prices, set to take effect on Thursday, are as follows:

  • PlayStation 5 – $549.99
  • PlayStation 5 Digital Edition – $499.99
  • PlayStation 5 Pro – $749.99

Despite the price adjustments for the consoles, Sony stated that the retail prices for PS5 accessories will remain unchanged.

This decision follows a similar increase in the UK, Europe, Australia, and New Zealand earlier this year. In addition, Sony had hinted at these price adjustments in response to increasing production costs due to tariffs inflicted by the US government.

Other companies in the gaming sector are also responding to the economic pressures; Microsoft has raised prices for Xbox hardware and accessories. Furthermore, ahead of the upcoming launch of the Switch 2, Nintendo recently increased the prices of accessories and the original Switch console.
