Ukrainian Security Service Uncovers Enemy “Mole” in Military Ranks
The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has arrested an enemy “mole” who was coordinating enemy strikes and attempting to recruit additional soldiers for Russian intelligence, reports 24brussels.
The suspect, identified as a former officer and commander of a drone unit within the Ukrainian Marine Corps fighting on the southern front, leaked geolocation data of his unit to enemy forces to aid in targeting Ukrainian defenders. Additionally, he directed airstrikes by enemy drones on backup command posts of adjacent military units and their munitions depots.
“Another task of the ‘mole’ involved searching for potential candidates to be recruited into the FSB’s agent network,” stated the SBU. During searches at the suspect’s location, agents seized a flash drive containing sensitive information intended for his handler, along with two mobile phones.
Investigations reveal that the Russian special services recruited the military officer through his relatives from the temporarily occupied territory of Luhansk. The suspect is currently in custody without the possibility of bail and faces life imprisonment with asset confiscation.
Recently, SBU operatives, in coordination with the Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, also uncovered a Russian military intelligence agent within the Ukrainian Air Force. This agent had been orchestrating enemy strikes against Ukrainian airbases housing Mirage 2000 and F-16 fighters, as well as Su-24 bombers. This individual was identified as an instructor pilot, a major in one of the Ukrainian Air Force brigades.
