Russian Forces Launch Drone Attack on Ukraine

On the night of August 23, 2025, Russian occupation forces launched a significant drone strike against Ukraine, deploying 49 Shahed-type kamikaze drones and imitation UAVs from various locations including Primorsk-Akhtarsk, Kursk, Shatalovo, and Millerovo, reports 24brussels.

The Ukrainian Air Defense Forces successfully intercepted and destroyed 36 drones of varying types. However, strikes were recorded in seven locations across the Donetsk, Sumy, and Dnipropetrovsk regions, where 13 drones managed to hit their targets.

Ukrainian radio-electronic systems and communications expert Sergey Beskrestnov revealed that a Russian drone, dubbed “Gerbera,” was discovered recently. This drone features a fragmentation warhead that is likely activated upon the removal of its cover. Its body is made of plywood and includes satellite navigation antennas, indicating a simpler design compared to the Shahed.
