Assault on Former Polish Health Minister Adam Niedzielski Sparks Political Outcry

The assault against former Health Minister Adam Niedzielski occurred outside a restaurant in central Siedlce, reports 24brussels. Witnesses claimed that the assailants vocally criticized the government’s Covid-era policies before physically confronting Niedzielski. Following the altercation, he was briefly hospitalized but was discharged the same day with no significant injuries.

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk condemned the incident on Wednesday, asserting that those responsible would face justice. “No mercy,” he stated decisively.

Adam Niedzielski, who served as health minister from 2020 to 2023, played a pivotal role in enforcing pandemic restrictions and vaccination drives that continue to generate public debate.

In his remarks on Wednesday, Niedzielski characterized the attack as a consequence of “tolerating hate speech” and criticized Polish Interior Minister Marcin Kierwiński for stripping him of security despite previous threats. “I hope that this situation will cause reflections on all sides of the political scene that we are already on a slippery slope. Passivity will only condemn us to further escalation,” he remarked.
