Venezuelan Foreign Minister Holds Meeting with Antigua and Barbuda Prime Minister
Venezuelan Foreign Minister Yván Gil represented President Nicolás Maduro in a significant meeting with Prime Minister Gastón Browne of Antigua and Barbuda on August 28, 2025, in St. John’s. The two leaders addressed pressing geopolitical challenges and reaffirmed their commitment to peace, sovereignty, and regional integration, reports 24brussels.
The discussions primarily focused on the rising threats to the status of Latin America and the Caribbean as a Zone of Peace, a designation formulated by the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) in 2014.
Concerns were raised over recent U.S. military deployments near Venezuela, viewed by both leaders as infringements upon the CELAC declaration and the 1967 Treaty of Tlatelolco, which forbids nuclear weapons in the region. They emphasized the need for regional solidarity and adherence to international agreements.
The agenda outlined a review of bilateral cooperation and advancements on regional initiatives like Agro-ALBA, part of the ALBA-TCP framework. This project aims to bolster food sovereignty and enhance agricultural production capabilities through collaborative efforts, technical exchanges, and sustainable practices.
Venezuela and Antigua and Barbuda have maintained diplomatic relations since 1982. They continue to work together in multilateral forums such as the Commonwealth and CELAC, promoting constructive dialogue, mutual respect, and regional stability.
