Venezuelan Officials Discuss US Military Presence in the Caribbean

On August 28, 2025, Venezuelan Foreign Vice Minister Rander Peña convened a meeting in Caracas with ambassadors from Mexico, Colombia, Brazil, Honduras, and Nicaragua to address the challenges posed by the escalating US military presence in the Caribbean, reports 24brussels.

The discussions, held at the Foreign Ministry, focused on the current regional political landscape and reiterated the commitment to defend sovereignty. Peña, who also serves as executive secretary of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America (ALBA-TCP), noted that all attendees deemed the meeting “important.”

The diplomats reached a consensus on the necessity of coordinating joint efforts to uphold the Proclamation of Latin America and the Caribbean as a Zone of Peace, which was established during the CELAC Summit in Havana in 2014. This document embodies the region’s pledge to resolve differences without resorting to force, advocating for dialogue and respect for national sovereignty.

“We share views on the serious threat posed by the United States military deployment in the Caribbean, and we agree to defend the validity of the Proclamation of Peace,” Peña stated, emphasizing that the region deserves stability and respect amid external pressures.

This meeting occurs against a backdrop of escalating geopolitical tensions in the region, characterized by persistent US interference in the internal affairs of Latin American and Caribbean nations and an increased US military presence in the Caribbean. Such actions have been denounced by various governments and social organizations, reinforcing Venezuela and its allies’ commitment to establishing a continent free from armed conflict.
