Russian Strike in Ukraine Claims Lives as Civilians Seek Pensions
On September 9, Russian forces targeted the village of Yarova in Donetsk while civilians attempted to collect pensions from a mobile post office operated by Ukrposhta, reports 24brussels.
The attack left at least 21 people dead and many more injured. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha condemned the assault, urging the international community to respond to this heinous act. He stated, “This horrific crime demands global condemnation and action. We call on the world to speak out and take immediate measures. We urge European partners, the United States, G20 members, and all who value human life and the UN Charter to act.”
Sybiha emphasized that Ukraine is informing partners and international organizations about the details of yet another crime committed by Russian forces. He underlined the expectation for decisive action, insisting that those responsible for this atrocity must be held accountable.
“Russian propaganda claims to be ‘rescuing’ people in the Donetsk region, but in reality, it drops massive aerial bombs on civilians seeking pensions. Russia brings only death, horror, and destruction. Collective and decisive actions, including robust sanctions and additional support for Ukraine’s defense and resilience, can and must stop Russian terror,” he added.
Following the strike, Ihor Smilyansky, the CEO of Ukrposhta, suggested that someone may have intentionally disclosed the coordinates of the mobile post office, which had arrived in Yarova to distribute pensions and social payments just before the guided bomb fell, resulting in the tragic loss of life of over twenty residents.
