Apple Introduces Hypertension Notifications with Latest Smartwatch Update

Apple has unveiled a suite of new health tracking features destined for the Watch Series 9 and subsequent models, including hypertension notifications. Set to be launched alongside watchOS 26 on September 15, 2025, these updates promise to extend sophisticated monitoring capabilities to users, reports 24brussels.

The forthcoming hypertension notifications will utilize existing optical heart sensors within the watches to evaluate how users’ blood vessels react to heartbeats. An algorithm will analyze the collected data over a 30-day period, alerting users if signs of high blood pressure are detected. Apple anticipates receiving FDA approval and clearance from other regulatory bodies within the month, aiming for a global rollout that encompasses over 150 countries and regions.

In addition to hypertension monitoring, Apple is expanding its Sleep Score feature to a broader array of devices. Initially confined to the new Watch Series 11, this feature will now be available for the Watch Series 6 and later models, as well as all Watch Ultra versions and the 2nd-generation Watch SE and newer. The Sleep Score evaluates sleep quality based on heart rate, wrist temperature, blood oxygen levels, and respiratory data, requiring synergy with an iPhone 11 or later.

As part of the watchOS 26 updates, users can also expect live translation and a new wrist flick gesture feature, further enhancing the smartwatch’s usability and functionality. Apple’s commitment to integrating advanced healthcare technology reflects its ongoing endeavors to redefine personal health management through smartwatches.
