Mandelson Reflects on Relationship with Epstein
Peter Mandelson has expressed profound regret over his association with Jeffrey Epstein, following revelations of the latter’s criminal activities. Mandelson, a key figure in Tony Blair’s government, acknowledged the suffering endured by Epstein’s victims and regretted maintaining ties with him for too long, reports 24brussels.
In his statements, Mandelson conveyed a deep sense of sympathy for the women affected by Epstein’s actions. He admitted, “I regret very, very deeply indeed carrying on that association with him for far longer than I should have done.” The former Labour MP reflected on the year 2003, when he fell victim to Epstein’s manipulative “lies” and the “accepted assurances” he received regarding Epstein’s legal troubles, which he took “at face value.”
“I felt it like an albatross around my neck since his death,” Mandelson stated, indicating the weight of his past decisions. He maintained that during their association, he did not witness any wrongdoing or criminal behavior on Epstein’s part, insisting that Epstein “never sought and nor did he offer” introductions to women.
Explaining his perspective, Mandelson remarked, “Perhaps it’s because I am a gay man. When I was associating with him those years ago, as I did with my then-partner and now husband Reinaldo, we never, ever saw any evidence or sign of this activity which has since come to light.” His comments continue to draw attention to the complex dynamics of relationships within elite circles, especially in the context of serious allegations stemming from Epstein’s life.
