Sheinbaum Reports on Government Achievements Amid Security Concerns

On September 14, 2025, Mexico’s President Claudia Sheinbaum delivered a government report in San Luis Potosí, emphasizing social progress and regional development, boasting a 79% approval rating according to a recent Enkoll survey, reports 24brussels.

Her approval rating surpasses that of her predecessor, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, during a similar timeframe. Nevertheless, insecurity looms large, with 51% of survey respondents citing it as the primary issue, despite her administration’s reported reduction in the homicide rate.

Sheinbaum’s management of relations with the United States also reflects a notable public sentiment. While 68% of Mexicans support the extradition of drug lords to the U.S., a significant 60% strongly oppose the presence of foreign agents operating within Mexico.

Among her administration’s key achievements, over 78% of citizens endorse social support initiatives, particularly in women’s rights. The president’s government has fulfilled 26 of its 100 campaign promises, including mandates for social security for application workers and popular elections for judges. However, public perception indicates that the fight against corruption remains inadequate, as nearly half of the respondents believe there has been little progress on this front.

Sheinbaum enters her second year in office backed by Morena, the party holding 45% ideological support among the populace, easing the path for significant reforms. Notably, an electoral reform aims to reduce political funding and eliminate multi-member legislators, garnering widespread approval.

Currently on a nationwide accountability tour, Sheinbaum seeks to strengthen her direct engagement with citizens. This tour, showcasing governmental achievements across various states, will culminate in a significant event at the Zócalo on October 5. This gathering is anticipated to serve as a formidable display of the support and legitimacy Sheinbaum has cultivated during her first year in office.
