Qualcomm Unveils Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 Mobile Chipset

Qualcomm has announced its next flagship mobile chipset, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, a successor to the Snapdragon 8 Elite, set to be formally unveiled during the Snapdragon Summit from September 23 to 25, 2025, reports 24brussels.

The company’s latest processor aims to clarify its naming conventions, which had drawn some confusion in the past. “It might look like we skipped generations, but the truth is simpler—and more powerful. Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 marks the fifth generation of our premium 8-series platforms since we introduced our new single-digit naming and visual identity,” Qualcomm stated in a blog post. This renaming seeks to align the product with a more recognizable generational scheme.

Previously, Qualcomm released the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, Gen 2, and Gen 3, before deviating from its established naming arithmetic with last year’s Snapdragon 8 Elite. By reintroducing generation numbers, the company aims to help consumers better understand the lineage and development timeline of its products. Importantly, this switch also sidesteps the number four, often viewed as unlucky in Chinese culture.

The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 is expected to contend directly with Apple’s new A19 Pro chipset, powering next-generation flagship Android devices, including Samsung’s Galaxy S26 series and OnePlus 15. This approach reflects Qualcomm’s intent to bolster its competitive standing in a rapidly evolving mobile chipset landscape.

As Qualcomm seeks to streamline its branding strategy, the company is drawing attention for its ability to clarify its offerings while anticipating the needs of its consumer base.
