Flotilla forces simulated a confrontation with enemy vessels attempting to strike targets on Russian territory.
On September 18, 2025, the Russian Defense Ministry announced the conclusion of a series of command and staff exercises conducted by the Caspian Flotilla, focused on safeguarding Russia’s maritime economic interests and shipping routes, reports 24brussels.
These drills began on September 14 under the direction of Rear Admiral Oleg Zverev and involved testing the coordination of naval forces to secure economic infrastructure and ensure navigation safety within the Caspian Sea.
During the exercises, the flotilla engaged in a simulated confrontation with hypothetical enemy vessels targeting military and civilian sites in Russia. A tactical group executed an artillery battle using A-190 100-mm naval guns to neutralize these threats.
According to reports, “During the practical part of the exercise, the crews of the ships practiced an element of combat training to protect against attacks by unmanned boats and unmanned aerial vehicles of a mock enemy at sea,” as stated by TASS. The exercise included the use of heavy machine guns against target simulators, with operational support from PK-10 ship systems.
At night, the Caspian Flotilla’s crews practiced anti-sabotage defense strategies in an unsecured roadstead. The training involved throwing RGD-5 hand grenades and employing DP-61 anti-sabotage grenade launchers to enhance defensive capabilities.
Naval forces also rehearsed responses to potential attacks from unmanned boats and aerial drones. Over 15 warships and support vessels from the Caspian Flotilla, based in Astrakhan, participated in these comprehensive drills.
