Hasselt – The Kapermolen swimming pool in Hasselt attracted 155,000 visitors from May to September 2025, marking an increase of 17,000 compared to the previous year, as confirmed by Alderman Tine Jans, reports 24brussels.

This seasonal surge in attendance aligns with the pool’s ongoing appeal, having recorded 172,000 visitors in 2022 and approximately 167,000 in 2023. Notably, during the early months of the previous season, the pool saw over 41,000 visitors, significantly up from just under 29,000 two years prior.

Alderman Jans highlighted that favorable weather, particularly during June 2025, contributed to the heightened visitor numbers. “June was a beautiful early summer this year, and that’s also when we see the biggest difference in visitor numbers,” she stated.

What Keeps the Kapermolen Pool in Hasselt Attracting Visitors?

In peak months of July and August, the pool consistently drew around 30,000 visitors, a trend extending over the past three years. In July 2022 alone, the attendance reached 34,000, with August seeing just under 44,000 swimmers. The increase reflects both the pool’s quality and its strategic management of public resources.

“If I had to go by my gut feeling, I’d say that although the summer was not completely free due to COVID restrictions, people were still eager to visit the outdoor pool,” explained Jans. This statement underscores the pool’s resilience during challenging circumstances.

“The reintroduced 20-session pass has already been purchased over 300 times. This allows non-Hassel residents to swim for €3.50 per session during peak season,” we heard from Jans.

The introduction of a new pricing model has also bolstered attendance. For residents aged 18 to 65 in Hasselt, the cost is set at €3.50, while non-residents pay €10. Residents from neighboring Diepenbeek and Alken can also swim for €3.50 by presenting valid identification. This pricing strategy aims to support local engagement while bringing in visitors from surrounding areas.

“We have reintroduced the 20-entry pass, and it’s already been purchased over 300 times,” Jans confirmed.

The accessibility of the Kapermolen pool amid changing pricing dynamics underscores the importance of engaging local populations while accommodating growing demand from non-residents, and price increases appear unlikely in the near future.
