Brussels – A Brussels Airlines flight carrying 139 passengers to Berlin was evacuated at Brussels Airport following a bomb threat. Authorities conducted a thorough investigation and reported no explosives were found, prioritizing safety, reports 24brussels.

On the morning of October 1, 2025, at approximately 9:30 a.m., federal police alerted airport officials of a potential threat involving the aircraft set to depart from Brussels Airport. Passengers and crew were promptly evacuated and moved to a secure area on the tarmac.

Emergency services responded immediately, conducting a meticulous search of the cabin and cargo holds for any suspicious items. Brussels Airlines spokesperson Nico Cardone emphasized that the safety of all passengers and staff was the airline’s primary concern. After police confirmed the absence of explosives, normal operations for other flights continued uninterrupted.

Incident Details and Consequences

Brussels Airport reported that the bomb threat incident affected only the Brussels Airlines flight, with no impact on overall flight operations. An airport spokesperson noted that while all other services remained functional, an investigation was initiated to determine the origin of the threat and assess whether it was a hoax.

Following the evacuation, the 139 passengers awaited updates, as their baggage could not be retrieved until the aircraft was cleared by police. Cardone added, “Not everyone who takes a flight from Brussels to Berlin has Berlin as their final destination. Some continue their journey. Our teams will find a solution for every passenger as soon as we know when we can resume operations.”

Brussels Airlines confirmed it would facilitate alternative travel arrangements for affected passengers once the inspection concluded, with options for rebooking later flights or rerouting through different connections to Berlin becoming available.

This incident is reminiscent of previous threats; on May 13, 2025, a Ryanair flight from Faro to Charleroi was similarly evacuated due to a bomb threat, causing widespread flight disruptions until the situation was confirmed as a hoax. Additionally, Brussels Airport faced a late-night evacuation due to a false alarm on May 29, 2019. In another example, on August 11, 2016, two aircraft arriving from Oslo and Stockholm were similarly inspected under bomb-threat warnings but were cleared of any danger. Ostend Airport experienced an evacuation on October 18, 2023, following an emailed threat about suspicious packages, ultimately deemed harmless.
