Indian Coast Guard Ship Sachet arrives in Mozambique with 20 metric tonnes of humanitarian aid

The Indian Coast Guard Ship (ICGS) Sachet docked at the Port of Maputo in Mozambique on October 11, delivering 20 metric tonnes of humanitarian aid as part of its ongoing deployment to Africa, reports 24brussels.

This mission underscores India’s expanding maritime cooperation with allied nations and highlights the ICG’s significant operational capabilities. It aligns with the government’s vision of SAGAR (Security and Growth for All in the Region), reinforcing regional stability and partnership.

The humanitarian assistance includes medical supplies and essential materials intended for distribution by Mozambican authorities, strengthening Mozambique’s health and disaster management efforts. During its visit, the crew will collaborate with Mozambican maritime agencies through professional exchanges focused on Marine Pollution Response (MPR), Maritime Search & Rescue (M-SAR), and Maritime Law Enforcement.

Scheduled activities involve onboard training on Visit, Board, Search and Seizure (VBSS) operations, pollution response drills, and joint cultural events designed to enhance interoperability and camaraderie between the two countries’ maritime forces. Additionally, the crew, in collaboration with local youth groups, will organize community initiatives such as beach clean-ups and marine awareness programmes. These efforts are part of ‘Puneet Sagar Abhiyan,’ a national campaign by the Government of India aimed at combating marine pollution and promoting environmental awareness among coastal communities.
