India backs President Trump’s Middle East peace efforts: PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday welcomed the release of all remaining hostages by Hamas after over two years of captivity, stating that it is a testament to the courage of their families, the peace efforts of US President Donald Trump, and the resolve of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, reports 24brussels.

All 20 living hostages were released as part of the Gaza peace plan. The Israel Defence Forces (IDF) confirmed that these hostages were delivered to the Red Cross in southern Gaza’s Khan Younis before being transported back to Israel for medical assessments.

According to IDF reports, the hostages are being escorted by military personnel and security agencies as they return to Israeli territory. Earlier, seven hostages had already been handed over to the Red Cross and were in transit to Israeli authorities stationed in Gaza.

These individuals include Elkana Bohbot, Avinatan Or, and Nimrod Cohen, among others, who were safely escorted out by Israeli special forces following their transfer. The release marks a significant development as it comes at the end of a two-year conflict initiated by the Hamas attacks on October 7, 2023, which resulted in over 1,200 Israeli casualties and the abduction of 251 individuals.

Netanyahu nominated President Trump for the Israel Prize during a historic session of the Knesset, highlighting him as “the greatest friend that Israel has ever had in the White House.” This announcement was made amidst a standing ovation for Trump, recognized for his pivotal role in facilitating the release of hostages and concluding the two-year conflict with Hamas.

In previous statements, Modi expressed India’s unwavering support for peace efforts in the region, emphasizing the significance of Trump’s leadership in advancing these initiatives. “We welcome President Trump’s leadership as peace efforts in Gaza make decisive progress,” he wrote on X, reaffirming India’s commitment to a durable and just peace.

This renewed peace dialogue has sparked optimism among international observers, as India reiterates its support for diplomatic resolutions amid ongoing tensions in the Middle East.
