UN Condemns Russian Strikes on Humanitarian Convoy in Kherson Region
On October 14, 2025, Ukrainian humanitarian coordinator Matthias Schmale condemned Russian attacks on UN transport in the Kherson Oblast. He reported that an inter-agency convoy consisting of four UN-marked trucks came under fire while delivering aid to the Bilozirka community.
The mission included employees from the WHO and UN HRC, tasked with providing humanitarian assistance to a community that has long lacked support due to ongoing military action.
“While unloading, two World Food Programme-branded trucks were hit by drones equipped with FPV cameras and caught fire. Thankfully, no humanitarian workers were harmed. Such attacks are utterly unacceptable,” Schmale emphasized.
He reminded that humanitarian workers are protected by norms of international humanitarian law and must not come under fire.
The UN stressed that civilians in frontline communities depend on humanitarian aid, and organization workers must be able to deliver it safely to those in need.
Schmale also noted an increase in drone attacks in the Kherson region, posing a threat to the lives of civilians.
“These shellings must cease. Every effort must be made to protect civilians and humanitarian workers, and international humanitarian law must be strictly adhered to,” the coordinator insisted.
Notably, on May 12, Russian forces struck a private residential building in Bilozirka, resulting in a 10-year-old girl being trapped under the rubble.
