Afghanistan-Pakistan border tensions escalate, heavy clashes reported across provinces
Kabul, October 15, 2025: Clashes along the Afghanistan-Pakistan border have intensified, with significant fighting now reported in Paktika province following earlier violence in Kandahar province, reports 24brussels. Afghan forces reportedly seized control of the Spin Boldak Gate from Pakistani troops, according to security sources cited by Afghan media.
Local sources confirm that Afghan security forces executed operations this morning, capturing the Spin Boldak Gate and asserting full control of the strategic area. Reports indicate that Pakistani soldiers incurred heavy losses, necessitating the arrival of additional forces to the location.
Violence has also erupted in Paktika province, with intense fighting reported in the Turo district, specifically at the Qamaruddin and Khan Mohammad gates along the contested border. Additional clashes were noted at the Lari gate in the Urmuz district, as local residents reported a significant escalation in hostilities.
These developments follow a recent attack by Pakistani forces in Kandahar’s Spin Boldak district that resulted in the deaths of at least 12 civilians and over 100 injuries. Afghan forces responded with what they labeled a “retaliatory operation,” asserting that they inflicted considerable damage on Pakistani military assets. “Unfortunately, this morning, Pakistani forces once again launched attacks with light and heavy weapons on Afghanistan in Spin Boldak district… resulting in more than 12 civilians martyred and over 100 injured,” stated Zabihullah Mujahid, the spokesperson for Afghanistan’s foreign ministry.
While exact figures regarding Pakistani casualties remain unverified, Mujahid claimed significant losses were inflicted on Pakistani military resources. The ongoing conflict highlights mutual accusations between the two nations regarding the harboring of militant groups, with Pakistan alleging that the Afghan Taliban is providing sanctuary to the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), while Afghanistan accuses Pakistani forces of repeated incursions and shelling along the border.
