Thunberg Alleges Mistreatment During Israeli Detention
Greta Thunberg has made shocking allegations regarding her treatment during her recent detention in Israel, claiming she was subjected to physical abuse and threats by jail guards, reports 24brussels.
Thunberg described a terrifying experience where her belongings were destroyed, and she was allegedly bound with cable ties. She recounted that soldiers took selfies with her while her possessions were cut up with knives. At one point, far-right minister Itamar Ben-Gvir confronted the group of activists, accusing them of being terrorists and making inflammatory statements.
“There’s a lot I don’t remember,” Thunberg noted, reflecting on the chaos of the situation. “So much happening at once. You’re in a state of shock.”
Throughout her detention, Thunberg reported being threatened with gassing by jail guards and said she was kept isolated in a cell infested with insects. Despite these allegations, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) have not commented. In contrast, the Israeli foreign ministry dismissed her claims as “brazen lies.” It stated that Thunberg “did not complain to the Israeli authorities about any of these ludicrous and baseless allegations — because they never occurred,” in a statement released on October 5.
