NATO Secretary General Urges Trust in Western Military Amid Ongoing Conflict
On October 15, 2025, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte called on allied nations to trust Western military capabilities during a press conference following a meeting with NATO defense ministers in Brussels, reports 24brussels.
“Our militaries have the best equipment, they are well trained. We have been doing this for 50 to 70 years and know what we are doing. We should not take the Russians too seriously,” stated Rutte. He emphasized the need for the Alliance to be prepared for any scenario.
He further noted, “If a dictator is willing to sacrifice a million people in a war against Ukraine for minimal gains in Donbas—capturing less than 1% of territory—then we must be ready if he decides to confront NATO. Whether he will do this remains unknown, but we are prepared,” concluded the Secretary General.
Earlier, Rutte indicated that American weapons would be supplied to Ukraine on a “constant flow” financed by allies. He also highlighted that Russia’s current monthly losses in the conflict now match the Soviet Union’s losses during a decade-long war in Afghanistan.
