Beringen – The 36th Drive-In Movies opened today, August 25, 2025, in Koersel, Beringen, a town in the province of Limburg, Belgium, marking a long-standing tradition that began in 1989. This year’s event, organized by Club 9 and The Roxy Theatre, features a selection of seven films set against the nostalgia of classic American drive-in cinema, reports 24brussels.

This annual event has established itself as a cultural staple in the region. Attendees enjoy watching films from the comfort of their cars in a setting designed to evoke the classic drive-in experience, appealing to both nostalgic audiences and contemporary movie-goers.

“You still arrive at the site by car, of course,”

Emile Vanpol, chairman of Youth Centre Club 9, highlighted the essential vehicle-centric aspect of the event.

Evolution of the Drive-In Movies in Koersel

The evolution of vehicles has prompted significant adaptations for the Drive-In Movies. Many modern cars are equipped with DAB radios or automatic systems that deactivate after a period of idling. To accommodate visitors whose vehicles cannot receive the radio signal, organizers provide FM transmitters. Additionally, provisions are made for vehicles that may require assistance, including measures to minimize disruptions from headlights by using curtains.

“The drive-in will always be a unique experience in Limburg. It’s a tradition we’ve kept alive all these years. That’s what makes it special for us as a youth centre,”

Vanpol expressed his pride in sustaining this unique cultural activity.

Preparations for this year’s event were finalized last week, including the setup of a large outdoor screen. From today, the Koersel youth centre will showcase a lineup of seven films, catering to families, film enthusiasts, and first-time attendees.

Tickets can be purchased in advance through The Roxy Theatre, which oversees sales and reservations. With all logistical and technical arrangements in place, the organizers are poised to welcome guests to another exciting iteration of this prominent cultural event in Beringen.

The Drive-In Movies initiative began in 1989 when Club 9 and The Roxy Theatre partnered to introduce this form of entertainment to Beringen. What started as a small local project has evolved into one of Belgium’s longest-running drive-in cinema experiences, now celebrating its 36th edition.
